MDF VRG Quang Tri Project: How Real-World Experience Solves the Energy Challenge for the Wood Industry

Publish date 19/03/2026

In the MDF wood industry, where operations run 24/7, energy is a decisive factor in determining competitiveness. After 1.5 years of persistently tackling complex technical challenges and the factory’s unique infrastructure constraints, the rooftop solar power system at MDF VRG Quang Tri was officially commissioned (COD) on March 3, 2026. This marks a significant milestone, reinforcing the company’s position as a green manufacturer within the global supply chain.

At MDF VRG Quang Tri Joint Stock Company, Vietnam’s pioneer in MDF exports, this direction has been realized through a rooftop solar power system installed at its factory in Nam Dong Ha Industrial Park. This is not only an energy project but also a testament to the transformation of a legacy brand in the era of green manufacturing.

Optimizing Costs with Self-Consumption Solar Energy

Founded in 2005, MDF VRG Quang Tri operates two modern production lines imported from Europe, supplying demanding markets across Asia and the Middle East. To maintain its leading position, the company partnered with SolarBK to deploy a rooftop solar system with a capacity of 1,730.14 kWp.

The project utilizes more than 3,200 high-efficiency IREX solar panels in a grid-connected model. According to technical calculations, the system can generate approximately 2.283 million kWh annually. This clean energy is prioritized for direct consumption in production, significantly reducing reliance on the national grid, especially during peak hours. Additionally, the project helps cut approximately 1,505.15 tons of CO₂ emissions each year, supporting the company’s carbon footprint reduction goals in industrial production.

Overcoming Technical Barriers and Harsh Central Vietnam Weather

Unlike new-build projects, implementing solar power at a long-established factory like MDF VRG Quang Tri posed complex technical and legal challenges. Starting in October 2024, SolarBK worked closely with the company for nearly 1.5 years to meet strict regulatory requirements before officially commissioning the system in March 2026.

The biggest challenge was not installation but navigating legal procedures related to construction and fire safety regulations. With a factory expanded in multiple phases, SolarBK collaborated closely with the investor to review, inspect, and restructure structural documentation for full compliance.

On the technical side, experts reinforced aging factory rooftops and applied specialized waterproofing systems to ensure durability. These efforts guarantee a long operational lifespan of over 25 years.

The project was also implemented during Central Vietnam’s harsh rainy and storm seasons. Working at height under extreme weather required flexible planning, strict safety prioritization, and commitment to project timelines. SolarBK’s hands-on experience in complex environments turned these challenges into proof of its industrial project expertise.

Digital Transformation in Energy Management with ERIS Platform

A key differentiator for MDF VRG Quang Tri is the integration of ERIS, a clean energy management platform developed by SolarBK. In the wood manufacturing industry, real-time energy data transparency enables efficient load management and supports sustainability reporting.

ERIS provides in-depth system performance analysis, production forecasting, and helps businesses meet international green standards such as EUDR and other sustainability certifications. This added value ensures not only “clean energy” but also “clean data,” empowering companies to confidently join global supply chains.

A Strategic Step in the Green Supply Chain

The solar power system at MDF VRG Quang Tri comes online at a time when global markets are tightening environmental standards for the wood industry. Adopting renewable energy not only reduces electricity costs but also significantly enhances brand value.

This project is not just an energy milestone but also part of SolarBK’s “Make in Vietnam” project portfolio, alongside major corporations such as VinFast and LEGO. The combination of MDF VRG Quang Tri’s experience and SolarBK’s technological capabilities creates a model of green manufacturing, showcasing the strength of Vietnamese enterprises in building a sustainable future together.
