In July 2021, Bach Khoa Investment & Development of Solar Energy Corporation (SolarBK) and Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVN-HCMC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation of the project "Monitoring and operating solar systems".
This has been one of the important cooperations between SolarBK and EVN-HCMC to promote digital transformation in the solar energy sector since the industry developed rapidly at the end of 2020.
Recently, EVN-HCMC has promoted the research and application of the achievements of Science and Technology 4.0 into production and business, building smart grids, and ensuring that electricity is always one-step ahead to serve the socio-economic development, to contribute to building Ho Chi Minh City as a smart and modern city. Mr. Pham Quoc Bao - Chairman of EVN-HCMC's Board of Directors affirmed that planning and implementing digital transformation plays a specific role in the development strategy of EVN-HCMC from now to the year of 2030.
EVN-HCMC has directed the Load Dispatch Center in Ho Chi Minh City (LDC HCMC) to coordinate with SolarBK to implement Phase 1 of the project "Monitoring and operating solar systems" (BigSMART) at 16 units of the existing solar systems. The project is aimed to build a digital technology platform to serve the inspection, monitoring and control of solar systems in the city. Ho Chi Minh City, besides, is building criteria to evaluate the management of efficiency for solar energy. It is expected that, after completing phase 1, the project will expand to predictably700 other systems.

Under the complicated impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and unpredictable climate change, being proactive in power management is essential to serve customers effectively. SolarBK solutions proposed in the BigSMART project has the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to predict the load, output, and usage behavior more and more accurately, thereby providing analysis to balance the systems automatically. In addition, LDC-HCMC can monitor and manage all solar systems on the only platform which connects to almost popular-inverter types activated in the market. In particular, this is a join-hand of technology entirely owned by Vietnamese people. On-site security and proactiveness are in priority to limit risks for big-data management not only in the HCMC power grid but also in the national one.
In order to have a basis for this digital transformation, since 2016, SolarBK has first launched the SSOC (Solar SystemsOperation Center) - the predecessor to BigSMART while solar power was quite strange in Vietnam at that time. Up to now, later 5 years of successful application to many large solar rooftop projects such as Green One Union House, Vincom, Vietnam Electricity, Tong Hong factory, .. and 2,000 household systems, SSOC has proven its technical value and helps a number of customers to manage their solar systems simply by a few taps on smart phone.
