From National Independence to Energy Autonomy: The Vietnamese Identity in the Green Transition Era

April 30th marks the reunification of the country, a historical milestone that opened a new chapter of development for Vietnam in an era of peace and integration. May 1st honors the value of labor, the bedrock of any modern economy's strength. Amidst the powerful global energy transition, the spirit of these two historic days does not merely recall the past; it sets a new mandate for the current generation: to build an economy that is more technologically self-sufficient, energy-autonomous, and sustainable in the long run.
In the previous century, independence was asserted through territorial sovereignty. In the 21st century, independence is being redefined by the capacity to master technology and achieve energy autonomy. For Vietnam, a manufacturing economy deeply integrated into global supply chains, developing clean energy solutions is no longer just a choice for growth; it is becoming a prerequisite to maintain and enhance national competitiveness in the Net Zero era. Early clean energy projects in the Spratly Islands (Truong Sa) and the DK1 offshore platforms proved our capacity to deploy systems in the harshest operating conditions of national energy infrastructure—a vital foundation for developing highly reliable energy solutions for industrial environments. For many manufacturing enterprises, the energy transition is no longer a long-term story. This pressure is present in every export order as major markets begin to link emission requirements with market access. Energy costs, power traceability, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards are increasingly becoming direct factors influencing the ability to secure orders, expand markets, and sustain growth.
In this context, the challenge for businesses is not simply installing a solar power system, but building a tailored energy strategy: one that optimizes operational costs while meeting international standards such as ESG, RE100, and the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), all while ensuring operational stability for the long term.
SolarBK’s journey stems from a foundation of renewable energy scientific research established after 1975 at Vietnam’s leading technical universities. When officially founded in 2006, SolarBK chose to realize that research legacy by creating energy solutions that directly serve the development needs of businesses and the nation. Early clean energy projects in the Spratly Islands (Truong Sa) and the DK1 offshore platforms proved our capacity to deploy systems in the harshest operating conditions of national energy infrastructure, a vital foundation for developing highly reliable energy solutions for industrial environments.
Building on that legacy, SolarBK approaches corporate projects as a partner providing holistic energy solutions. Rooftop solar systems at VinFast Hai Phong (30.72 MWp), LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam (7.3 MWp), along with over 50 Vincom centers nationwide and numerous export factories in the textile, footwear, and wood processing industries, have helped businesses optimize electricity costs, comply with ESG standards, and sharpen their competitiveness in international supply chains. Building on that legacy, SolarBK approaches corporate projects as a partner providing holistic energy solutions. The year 2025 continues to mark SolarBK’s growth with 38 completed projects, 205 MWp deployed, and over 617 MWp in strategic partnerships with major stakeholders. Notably, the solar-plus-storage project at VinFast Hai Phong exemplifies an inevitable market trend: energy solutions are no longer just about generating electricity; they must be designed to ensure stability, flexibility, and long-term operational optimization.
If the spirit of April 30th is one of national independence, then today, energy autonomy is becoming a pillar of corporate and national development capacity. Each clean energy system deployed does more than generate stable power for production; it contributes to an endogenous energy ecosystem—the foundation for an economy that is more resourceful and sustainable in the long term.
Parallel to this, the spirit of May 1st is carried forward by human ingenuity, the engineers and energy experts directly driving green transition commitments within enterprises. Through talent development programs, SolarBK is building a generation of energy engineers capable of partnering with businesses to implement ESG, optimize energy strategies, and meet the escalating standards of the global supply chain. SolarBK is building a generation of energy engineers capable of partnering with businesses to implement ESG, optimize energy strategies, and meet the escalating standards of the global supply chain. In a world where energy is inextricably linked to national competitiveness, choosing the right partner helps businesses not only solve cost challenges but also creates a foundation for stable, long-term development. With decades of scientific expertise, a track record of deploying hundreds of MWp in real-world projects, and a holistic problem-solving approach, SolarBK continues to accompany the business community on a journey toward an energy transition that is more autonomous, efficient, and sustainable.
The spirit of April 30th and May 1st is not just a historical reflection; it is being written today through investment decisions, technological solutions, and the people directly building the energy foundation for the future.
