Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). It was started as a lights-off event in Australia in 2007. Since then it has grown to engage more than 170 countries and territories. Contributing to the Turn off Lights Festival  2017, SolarBK shared exciting experiences about solar energy with the festival’s participants.

What is exciting about joining Turn off Lights Festival with SolarBK?

Although the weather was cold and wet in Hanoi, in the IPH Shopping Center, thousands of people, students and volunteers were involved in an exciting atmosphere and meaningful activities with the purpose of protecting the environment from 9am to 22pm.

In the morning, in the solar power experiment area, IREX, a product of SolarBK attracted a lot of young people to participate in fingerprint rolling to pledge their commitment or sharing ideas to protect the environment. Remarkably, when participating in “Green Roof – Clean the Environment” activities, many young people were also aware of the benefits of using solar energy to create a better living environment.

Later, SolarBK and IREX’s representatives explained the composition of solar cells and their operating principles to the students so that they can understand how solar powered products work.

With the spirit of “real-life experience”, besides educational activities, visitors had the opportunities to see and touch useful products such as bags and solar battery chargers. Although IREX is dedicated to large projects, it has also been offering a wide variety of applications with the passion and desire to bring clean energy closer to the people.

BOO Inc.’s CEO Do Viet Anh – Head of Organization of the Turn off Lights Festival 2017 shared: “I thought these solar backpacks or bags like these are only available in foreign countries. I am really surprised to see them here and they were manufactured by a local company. ”

Ambassador of “ Turn off Lights Festival 2017″ MC Phan Anh – an active artist in social work – was very interested in the solar energy suitcase.  He also wishes to have an opportunity to bring practical applications like this in his volunteer activities to help support people in places with no electricity.

Earth Hour is not just turning off the lights

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Earth Hour’s journey worldwide with many meaningful activities, with ” lights off ” maintained for many years as an indispensable part. An hour with lights turning off would not be enough for the current shortage of energy, but the moment with no light would “turn on” many other things for us. It is a sense of awareness and responsibility for the environment.

Hoang Lan, a student at the Vietnam University of Commerce, shared: “Although I only participated in the festival in its second year, I was aware of the elements affecting our environment. I have been cycling 4km to school instead of riding a motorcycle for more than a year. ”

In Vietnam, businesses and organizations have started to pay attention and use environmentally friendly products. There are many solar power projects such as the United Nations’ Green Building in Hanoi, the Administration Center of Binh Duong Province, and the Electricity Building of Ho Chi Minh City, etc.

The World Conservation Strategy publication (published by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Nature Resources – IUCN) highlighted: “The development of humanity cannot just focus on economic development but also has to respect the inevitable needs of society and the impact on the ecological environment .”

This is exactly what SolarBK and IREX are pursuing.-  social responsibility is parallel with business development. This is because “A green environment and a clean planet are the results of a continuous process of protecting and maintaining the awareness of each individual and organization.”
